About Hermit Life

Empowering Highly Senstive Introverts

It can be challenging and isolating to be a highly sensitive and/or introverted person in an extrovert-oriented society. From the time you're young, you may be bombarded with messages that you should be different from how you are, leading to feelings of inadequacy and rejection.

For much of my life I felt like something was "wrong" with me as I struggled to fit in and appear to enjoy doing the things that other people did. Trying to constantly meet expectations, both assumed and stated, left me feeling inadequate and overwhelmed I suffered from poor mental health, drank too much, and resorted to prescription pills to cope. All of this eventually resulted in complete collapse. My health failed and I developed a long-term chronic-fatigue-like condition. I (thankfully) no longer tolerated any meds or alcohol and was forced to find other ways to cope.

The good news is that I did just that. I learned how to manage stress naturally, how to connect with nature and most importantly with my own true self. My health is slowly but surely improving and I am emotionally and spiritually more fulfilled than ever. I feel much more positive and optimistic than I did previously, and I'm not so dependent on everything around me going well.

I now have a desire to share everything I've learned on this challenging journey so that other sensitive folk don't have to crash and burn before they accept themselves for who they were born to be.

My intent with this website is to provide a space for sensitive introverts to engage in self-awareness and to fill up with all the things that are energizing for us. I hope you will realize how great being a deep, thoughtful person really is and all of the introvert-friendly ways in which you can contribute to the world.

To this end, there are a multitude of free resources available. From self-help worksheets that you can download to blogs about common challenges we face to a free introductory meditation class. There are introvert-friendly ways to connect with one another, such as the Anti-Social Social Club Facebook group (which includes a book club!). I've also included lots of ideas about how introverts can find meaning and purpose without having to 'go big' or do a lot of peopling. You can also sign up for a monthly newsletter that contains lots of hermit-friendly tips, topics and encouragement, including a monthly Mindfulness Challenge.

I am also a certified Life Coach and I do offer coaching for those who may want personal feedback and guidance. My coaching incorporates principles of neuroscience with elements of mindfulness, positive psychology and intuitive practices. Often it just helps to speak to an unbiased listener.

Issues I have helped clients resolve include:

  • stress & overwhelm

  • boundary issues

  • feeling stuck in life

  • lack of self-esteem

  • inner conflict & self-sabotage

Feel free to poke around and I hope you find something that helps you on your journey. This lost, chaotic world needs thoughtful, sensitive people more than ever. We truly can make a difference! By healing and accepting ourselves, we begin to heal the world!
